Are your feet becoming more impact resistant running in your FiveFingers?

It seems that my only real problem right now is foot soreness after a run that seems to be foot-smacking-pavement related insofar as it is worse over longer distances. I've been running in them for a year and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Similarly, any good remedies? The first few steps when I stand up after sitting after a run are worse as my feet don't really want to flex from stiffness and soreness.

I've noticed that the more I wear my VFFs (and it's them or nothing, and I train and walk a lot - and will probably get back into more running once I get back from the intensive that starts tomorrow) the bouncier my feet feel. As if I'm better able to use the springiness of all my joints. So I suspect, yes.

Have you tried rolling your foot over a small can? That's helped me when I've had issues that sound similar. (For a bonus you can cool or freeze the can first.)

The only remedy I've tried is some stretching and refusing to sit down. Also, not putting my feet up as the subsequent blood rush is kind of terrible. :)

I'll try the can or, I think, there's a foam roller somewhere in my house....

And just because that first step pain makes it hard for me not to ask -

are you pretty sure you're not getting plantars fasciitis?

Yeah, pretty sure it's not PF. The pain is soreness and stiffness all over my foot that gets better with more movement.

Its unlikely that anybody would get plantars fasciitis from running in Vibrams as the very act of doing it strengthens the PF.

i had the same issue. then i stopped running in them. I still wear them for all other occassions, just not long distances.

what about running differently. When I run in mine, my feet don't smack like they do in running shoes because (like you) it hurts. So I changed the way I plant my feet and it made a huge difference. The gear shop I work at (where we sell VFF) tells people that they will have to learn to run differently, naturally.
I'm not sure how to explain how I plant my feet differently. I know that I don't land as sharply on my heel.
